So Here I was feeling bad about my lost progress for taking a month off of running. Today a good friend called me today to tell me he's running a marathon in Nov! He wants his wife (also my good friend) to run the half but she's lagging. So he thinks if I do it, she will to. So I told him I'd think about it. It's 22 weeks away, 13.1 miles. A far cry from the 3.1 I did in May. But I need something to push myself towards. It's in TX so it would be nice to visit Ashley and Ryan anyway. It's the first RockNRoll Marathon in San Antonio. I think I'm going to do it. My trainer thinks it'll be a great idea. Wed morning I'm going to wake up 30 min early and go for a run. That's my plan!
Goodness me. After my 5K in May, I decided to take a few weeks off from running to allow my damned shin splints to heal. It's also been bloody hot here so I've had NO motivation to run outdoors (its like 85 at 6 in the morning). Well today I decided to run on the treadmill at the gym. IT SUCKED! I feel like I lost everything that I had worked up to! I couldn't run 30 min straight! I was running 7 walking 3 and by 30 min I was DONE! And I couldn't keep my heartrate down for the life of me. I think running was the main reason I was losing all the weight I did. I've lost nothing lately even though I've been going to the gym just as often. I'm super bummed about this. I've got to get back into that groove and push through the crap feeling, get my heartrate down, build up my speed and endurance again. I want to run a race in Sept, hopefully in under 30 min. I'm also going to Hawaii in Aug, so this is crunch time for me. Time to get with it!
(i.e., Shin Splints)
I mentioned a few weeks ago that my bf had gotten me some running shoes at Payless in support of my new running program, and that they seemed to work fine.
Well, I take it back.
They didn't hurt my feet which was my initial concern because I have low arches, but since I've been wearing them I've gotten really, really bad shin splints. I ended up going back to my very old New Balance and they are much better. I can't twist the mid soles that much, so they aren't totally dead (which just means that I've been slacking for years).
I just ordered these:
which are the same model (836) as my old ones. The green's not my favorite, but whatever.
So I've learned the hard way not to skimp on shoes. Another lesson learned.
My 5K was Saturday!!! I finished in just under 35 min which was my goal! I'm having Major shin issues now so I'm going to take a couple week break, but I've already signed up for another 5K in Sept and I'm hoping to get under 30 min. I want to start running longer and better. I never thought I'd be a runner! It's so awesome! And the 20 lbs I've lost so far doesn't hurt either!!!!
I can't believe I actually did it!!! I ran a full 5k yesterday night (it was a training run, my real 5k is Saturday May 3rd). Now my goal is to get better at the hills and decrease my overall time by 5 minutes...hopefully that is doable in the 2 weeks
So my race is just about a month. I'm still running 3 times a week and doing strength training 2 times a week. It's about to start getting hot here (desert) so I'll be moving my runs indoors. But I'm so excited to run my 5K, and I'm already looking into what to do next. 10K? Half Marathon? I feel like I can do it all!
So I was wondering when everyones race is? Mine is May 10th. I Can't wait!! I'm in my 6th week of training, out of a 12 week program!
